Still at the Movies

After yesterday's post, I can't stop thinking of movies with great travel costumes.  How about this classic safari look from Out of Africa?  The casual elegance of rumpled linen suits, a fabulous wide-brimmed hat to keep the sun off... though I think I'd pass on the tie and the cartridges!

Now this is a great suit!  Not exactly a travel outfit (I believe it was for a costume party) but its so becoming on Audrey Tautou in Coco Avant Chanel...

...as are the classic Breton stripes.   Did I mention I'm obsessed with sailor stripes?

Here's a closeup of the suit.   You rarely see three-piece suits these days, and its much rarer to see them on a woman.  The most modern example I can think of would be a la Annie Hall.

More artfully disheveled than elegant, but classic all the same!

Traveling in Style: Inspiration

As the weather cools down I'm looking forward to jackets and hats, and overall a more polished look.

I'm particularly inspired by The Brothers Bloom, a movie by Rian Johnson that came out in 2008.
I found this movie so charming and enjoyable, and the fabulous costumes were integral to the experience!

The talented Rinko Kikuchi really lucked out.  Her character had the most playful looks.  Two years later, I'm still obsessed with the half-tint sunglasses.

I've never striven for a put together look when I travel, but this movie, with its twist on classic shapes and strict adherence to solid colors, makes me want to give it a little more effort!

Taking the plunge

from the Google's LIFE Photo archive

This photo encapsulates my feelings about this endeavor... there's so much excitement and joy in leaping towards an independent business, but at the same time I wonder if there's a safety net below!

Consider this an inspiration journal/photo diary of this journey.  Details to come as they materialize.  I hope you'll join me for the ride!
