Halloween!

Looking very forward to being Annie Hall this weekend, especially as its gotten cold!  I'm continually drawn to menswear for Halloween (last year I was Charlie Chaplin).  The comfort and ease of pants and layers can't be beat!

What are you going to be?

Who you calling a punk, punk?

Avant Garde 80s Silver Spike Studded Black Leather Loafer Slip On Flats

Studded Givenchy ballet flats, from Jane of Sea of Shoes

Tavi, rocking seriously awesome Comme des Garcons toe-shoes

I don't know what it is about fall weather, but all the layering is making me crave some punky shoes to offset my fair aisle cardigan and chinos that I can't seem to live without.  For youthful inspiration, who better than these wunder-bloggers?  Tempted to bust out the black sharpie on some thrifted mocs and channel Tavi's CdGs...

The restrained use of line and color in Auerbach's artwork translates well to her jewelry designs, agreed?

Whimsy once more

Eugenia Kim wool "fox" stole, Anthropologie.com

I fear I'm becoming predictable - any accessory with a hint of whimsy ends up on a post!  But how fun is this stole?

____ a book by its cover...

book clutches by Olympia Le-Tan, Opening Ceremony

I am OBSESSED with these book clutches by Olympia Le-Tan.  Kate Spade's done something similar...

... but I think I prefer Le-Tan's version.  The cloth texture of the clutch is so appealing.  This bag would be such a comfort to carry, especially for all the Kindle-boycotters (like yours truly) who can't bear giving up the smell, feel, and heft of an honest-to-goodness BOOK!

Classic

Luella satchel, from jakandjil.com

Cambridge Satchel on Stylebynumbers.infoCambridge Satchel on Stylebynumbers.info

This fall I'm craving classic shapes in bright leather, whether in color or sheen.  I love the embossed monogram on the yellow Cambridge Satchel bag, and its much closer to my budget than Luella!

Thinking About...

Thinking today about the work of Shirin Neshat, an Iranian artist and filmmaker whose work deals with her displacement as an Iranian living in America, and the male-female dynamic in Islamic societies.  Her images are incredibly arresting and provoking.

Creatures of Comfort

I've been a terrible blogger this week!  Well, better late than never.  A few images that caught my eye before I leave town for a long weekend.

Gremlin purse, taken by Tommy Ton for Style.com

Gus and his monkey doll, taken by Lena Corwin

There's something sweet yet slightly creepy about this stuffed animal bag trend (see also Style Rookie Tavi Gevinson sporting a black leather bunny bag).  They are quickly growing on me, but I'd rather figure out a way to make one myself than shell out.  The way this woman clutches her gremlin bag is reminiscent of a child (or dog!) cuddling up with a treasured stuffed toy.  I still have my teddy bear from when I was a baby... no chance that he'll become a bag though!  He's far too precious :)

Is this trend too absurd?  Does is cross into Lolita-esque territory, or is it simply a whimsical and fun accessory?

Have a great weekend!

Springing into Fall

Celine, ss11, look 11, from Style.com

Fall weather has just arrived here, and with it perfect 65 degree weather, turning leaves, and crisp air! I'm enjoying it so much, so when poring over the concurrent spring 2011 fashion shows I'm immediately drawn to knits and layers I'm dying to wear now!

This blanket-like vest from Celine (led by the indominatable Phoebe Philo) is just what I'm craving.  Clean lines yet a cozy fabric and comfortable shape.  I want!
